Launch of a new channel of the China-Europe Land-Sea Express Line between Italy and Slovenia

TRIESTE, Italy, June 27 (Xinhua) — A block train service to facilitate transportation of products from Chinese home appliance maker Hisense was launched here on Monday.

Operated by the Chinese company COSCO SHIPPING, the first train on the new line left from the port of Trieste, in northeastern Italy. The train, loaded with 32 containers, is due to arrive in Velenje, Slovenia, home of Hisense’s European headquarters, on Tuesday.

The freight train service is part of the China-Europe land-sea express line, which combines sea and land transport, and stretches from the Greek port city of Piraeus to the hinterland of Europe.

During the launching ceremony of the Hisense train in Trieste, COSCO SHIPPING’s executive vice president, Lin Ji, said that in the future, “electrical products produced by Hisense in Velenje will also be transported to Trieste by the train. -block, loaded on container ships of COSCO SHIPPING” and shipped to other destinations in Europe and beyond.

Noting that the Trieste maritime terminal “represents the gateway to Central and Eastern Europe”, Stefano Selvatici, general manager of the terminal, said he was “confident that this new rail connection will represent a crucial step capable of innovating a traditional logistics system into a more efficient and adapted system.”

Massimiliano Fedriga, president of the Friuli Venezia Giulia autonomous region where Trieste is located, thanked COSCO SHIPPING and Hisense for recognizing the potential of the port of Trieste, adding that he hopes the opportunities for business collaborations will continue to grow.

Trieste is the fourth channel to be opened on the China-Europe Land-Sea express line in Europe, after the main port of Piraeus channel, the Rijeka channel in Croatia and the Valencia-Madrid-Bilbao channel in Spain, according to COSCO SHIPPING .
